MOUNT PLEASANT – Winning is what Richard Winn Academy was able to do Friday night against the Cougars of Coastal Christian Prep in a SCISA 8-Man first-round playoff match-up, and it is exactly what the Eagles must continue to do in order to extend their playoff run and finish as champions.

After turning the ball over on downs their first possession, the Eagles went on to score on five of their next six possessions before ending the half with a 42-0 lead, en route to a 56-14 victory.

“We knew we could throw the ball against them and we were able to do that early,” RWA head coach Dan Dickerson said.

RWA quarterback Gunnar Hensley had a tremendous night for the Eagles, passing for 145 yards while completing 10 of 14 passes for three scores. He also contributed on the ground with 47 yards and a touchdown.

However, Gunnar wasn’t the only one putting in work for the offense; Webb Yongue also had a very impressive night rushing 12 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns while leading all receivers in receptions (4) and completing an 87-yard pass to Bryant Carvalho resulting in a touchdown.

Carvalho was a touchdown machine. Although he only had four receptions on the night, he converted those catches into 184 yards, four touchdowns and a successful 2-point conversion.

In a game to forget, the Cougar offense seemed out of synch and had a hard time moving the ball, either on the ground or in the air. They struggled mightily on third downs and were able to convert only two first downs the entire first half. This, coupled with turnovers, is a big reason the Cougars were held scoreless until the second half.

Never looking to back down, the Cougars continued to fight and claw their way back into the game and scored on their first two possessions of the second half. Sadly, they were unable to recover from the first half deficit and the dominant Eagles proved too much.

Daniel Ulmer led the way for the Cougars passing for 204 yards while completing 8 of 22 passes with a touchdown while rushing for an additional 86 yards and a touchdown. Though he only had two grabs, Ben Forbes amassed 115 yards and a touchdown on the night. Rodney Prioleau was the team’s second leading rusher and receiver with 19 yards on 11 carries and 46 yards on two catches.

“We played good defense,” Dickerson said. “I was really proud of our defense tonight.”

The Eagles defense played lights out for most of the game. As a unit, they forced a total of four fumbles, recovering two, and had an interception while allowing only 14 points.

The win puts the Eagles on course for a rematch with Greenwood Christian this Friday in Greenwood.

“Now we’ve got to get ready to go play Greenwood,” Dickerson said. “They beat us bad at our place about three weeks ago, so we’ve got to go back and regroup.”
