Lake Wateree levels to rise for Hydro Station maintenance

LAKE WATEREE — Duke Energy is advising Lake Wateree residents and visitors that water levels will be higher-than-normal.

The water levels are expected to rise over the weekend and remain near 99.0 feet (local datum) throughout the week of August 17, 2026. The increase is necessary to accommodate planned maintenance at the Wateree Hydro Station.

Duke Energy issued a warning alongside the announcement, urging everyone to use extreme caution while recreating on the lake. Property owners are advised to check shorelines and ensure that any items near the water—such as boats, floats, or loose equipment—are moved to higher ground or securely fastened to prevent them from being affected by the rising tide.
