BLYTHEWOOD – The Blythewood Historical Society and Museum will explore South Carolina’s pivotal role in the fight for American independence during a four-part speaker series each Thursday in August.
The programs begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Langford-Nord House. The first session (on Aug. 6) features Millie West, a local history buff and author, presenting “Women Heroes of the War.” West will highlight the extraordinary roles of spies, midnight couriers, and negotiators who shaped the conflict in South Carolina.
Following the talk, Paul and Bob Wood will lead a “Beginners’ Guide to the Revolutionary War” in the Train Room, offering a broad overview of the state’s military history.

Aug. 13: Arlene Andrews on family life in the backcountry.
Aug. 20: Paul Wood on early colonial divisions and bloodshed.
Aug. 27: Col. Jim Butcher on 18th-century tactics and weaponry.
Light refreshments will be served after each program at the museum, located at 100 McNulty St. A follow-up series covering the war through 1782 is planned for later this year. Next Thursday’s guide will provide a broad overview of the entire war within the state.
