BLYTHEWOOD – The Blythewood baseball team (22-2, 11-0 Region 5-5A) picked up two more wins Thursday and Tuesday night.
The Bengals played host to nonregion opponent Camden Thursday and finished the Bulldogs of 11-1 in six innings. Chance Johnson went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. Johnny Collins had a triple, home run and also drove in four runs. Sergio Melendez had two doubles and Navy Strickland was 2-for-3.
Bowman Rummel got the win among five Bengal pitchers who took the mound. Rummel pitched two innings and gave up Camden’s only run on four hits.
On Tuesday against Ridge View Blythewood opened with a 5-run first-inning and added six more runs in the second and third innings to shut out Ridge View 11-0 in five innings.
Caleb Blackwell pitched 4 2/3 innings of one-hit ball, striking out five and walking one.
Brandon Bolton went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Melendez went 3-for-3 with a double, Strickland had two hits and Amare Counts batted in two runs.
The Blythewood softball team (14-5, 10-2) rocked Darlington with 18 hits and beat the Falcons 16-7
Rhames Weisinger had three hits, including a home run and three RBI, and Molly Wolf also homered and had three hits. Lily Zell went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, and Cici Martin had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Gabby Cadena had two hits, a double and and two RBI, and Makalah Ford and Macie Young had two hits apiece. Charlotte Martin drove in two runs.
Zell started the game in the circle and gave up six runs, all earned—three in the first inning and three in the third—but struck out nine in four innings of work.
Charlotte Martin pitched the final three innings and gave up a run on three hits, striking out five.
Ridge View forfeited both games against the Bengals this week, meaning that Blythewood softball will not see action until the 5A Division 1 district tournaments that begin Monday. The Bengals finished second in the region behind champion West Florence.
Blythewood baseball, which won the Region championship for the second year in a row and clinched a 20-win season for the sixth time in seven years, closes out the season at Ridge View Thursday. The Bengals will be idle when the 5A Division 1 playoffs begin with play-in series Monday, and the district tournaments begin May 9.
