
WINNSBORO – Fairfield Track and Field returned to the track March 1 for the Diamond Hornets Invitational. The defending boys 2A SCHSL State Champion Griffin squad showed up.
With thirty teams competing from all levels, the Griffins claimed fifth place (behind 5A powerhouses Ridge View, Lugoff-Elgin, Blythewood and Dutch Fork).
Tydarion Grier, Jayden Boyd, and Hank White set the tone for the boys.
Grier pulled first place in the 100 meter dash with a 10.57 finish. Boyd finished second in 100 meters behind Grier at 10.59 and finished first in the 200 meter dash at 21.16. Grier finished in seventh place at 22.50. White pulled a second place finish in the 800 meter run at 2:00.85.
The Griffins’ 4×100 (42.55) and 4×400 (3:32.41) meter relay teams both had fourth place finishes.
In the two weeks since the Diamond Hornets Invitational, the Boyd and Griffin duo has dominated the 100 and 200 meter dash. Grier and Boyd finished first and second again in the 100m at the Clash of the Carolinas on March 9 in Waxhaw, NC. Grier clocked a 10.52 and Boyd finished at 10.54. Boyd then took first in 200m dash at 21.33.
Christian Hingleton took sixth place in long jump at the Clash of Carolinas at the 21-0 mark.
On March 12, the Griffins competed at Spring Valley. The boys finished third and the girls came in fourth.
Brintney Mack had a day. She took 3rd in 100m at 12.89, 5th in 200m at 26.78 and 6th in 400m at 1:04.97.
Janirah Gladden had an eighth place finish in long jump at 2.89m.

Both Griffin teams are set to run in the Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic at Westwood High School on Saturday.
