
COLUMBIA – Westwood’s baseball and softball teams picked up Region 5-5A victories at Ridge View Tuesday night.
The Redhawks baseball team improved to 4-3 overall with a 4-0 shutout of the Blazers. Gabriel Espinoza pitched a complete-game four-hitter, striking out 10. Jayden Quarles, Zachary Nelson, and Austin Jeffcoat had two hits apiece. Quarles and Jeffcoat both hit doubles.
The Redhawks played at Fairfield Central Wednesday, but scores were not available prior to The Voice’s press deadline.
Westwood’s softball team (2-6) beat Ridge View 13-2 in five innings. Pettway Carolina pitched five innings and gave up two runs on four hits but struck out nine.
Marguerite Ridgeway went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Ella Griffin had two hits including a triple and drove in two runs. Nayanna Shannon went 2-for-2 with a double.
The Redhawks played Andrew Jackson Wednesday.
