High school baseball is back in Fairfield

WINNSBORO – Fairfield County’s three high school teams have officially gotten back on the mound.

Richard Winn (1-1) opened play with a 6-2 loss to Greenwood Christian on Feb. 26. Greenwood Christian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, and the Eagles were unable to recover. Charlie Bonds took the loss on the mound. He threw four innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on three hits. He struck out eight and walked two.

Bennett Nicholson led at the plate, batting 2-5 with a triple and three RBIs. Johnathan Bonds doubled.

The Eagles hosted Midlands STEM Charter School for a cross-town game on Tuesday.

The Eagles downed the young Mavericks squad 24-1 in a short three-inning game. Dylan Albert picked up the win on the mound. He struck out nine batters in 11 faced.

Albert had two doubles, and three RBIs. Johnathan Bonds doubled again – he went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Owen Martin also doubled. Charlie Bonds and Turner Burchell both had homeruns. Bonds went four for four with three RBIs. Burchell batted one for four with five RBIs.

For the Mavericks, Colton Comer had the team’s only hit of the game. He went 1-2 and stole two bases before scoring.

Nate Seager, Comer and Demond Wilson combined pitching efforts. Seager had one K, Comer struck out two, and Wilson struck out three.

The Eagles and Mavericks will play again tonight at 6 p.m.

Fairfield Central (1-1) opened play with a 7-5 win over South Pointe on March 1. Graeme Douglas batted 2-3 with a double and 3 RBIs. He also got the win from the mound, throwing six innings. He allowed seven hits, and four runs (one earned). He walked three and struck out six.

The Griffins dropped game two to American Leadership Academy. The Patriots took the lead in the top of the third and held on for a 5-2 win over the Griffins. Douglas, Trey Wilcox, and Favors had the Griffins’ three hits. K Jones took the loss on the mound. He allowed three hits, five run (two earned) over four and one-third innings. He walked four.

The Griffins are back in action on March 11 at Richland Northeast.
