WHS volleyball ends playoff run

BLYTHEWOOD – Despite a home court advantage, Westwood High School’s volleyball team ended their quest for a 5A Division 2 state title last Thursday in game four against a stout Lucy Beckham squad.

Westwood fell behind early in the first set and never fully recovered as Lucy Beckham took the first win by 25-19. The Redhawks rallied back in the second set with a 25-18 win over the Bengals.

Tied at 1-1, both teams battled for the lead in the third set, but Lucy Beckham managed a 25-18 win to go ahead 2-1.

The Bengals closed out the game in the fourth set, taking a more decisive 25-14 win to dash the Redhawks’ title hopes.

The Redhawks end with a 17-7 record and a region title.

Seniors Camryn Jeffery and Lilly Almada were named to the 4A/5A South All-Star roster. They will play Nov. 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Brookland-Cayce.
