CHARLOTTE – After a season of cancelled and rescheduled meets due to weather and course conditions, Blythewood’s cross country team was back in action at the Wendy’s Invitational in Charlotte on Saturday, Oct. 5. Though their season so far has been sporadic, their results continue to be superior – individually and as a team.
Bengal juniors Jacob Powell and Anna Kelly both finished in first in the 500 meter run. Powell crossed the finish line first out of 151 runners at 16:17.66 mark. Kelly’s time of 19:11.66 was the fastest on the day out of 150 runners.
The Bengal boys also took first place as a team with a score of 53. Summerville finished second with 86 points. The girls finished in fourth out of 21 teams with 129 points. Charlotte Catholic took first at 79.
Blythewood Boys
Spencer Shealy finished at 16:28.32 for third place in the boys run. Dillian Boyer, Eureka Washington, and Anthony Knight all finished under 18 minutes. Boyer clocked in at 17:08.26 for 14th place; Washington placed 15th with a time of 17:09.72. Knight finished at 17:36.82 for 23rd place to round out the team’s score.
Blythewood Girls
Mallorie Hogue, a senior, came in on Kelly’s heels at 19:16.24 for a third place finish. Scarlett Baker had her fastest time of the season at 21:16.06 for 26th place. Paige Kelly finished at 21:50.95 for 34th place, and Madeline Lowery finished at 23:16.56.
The Bengals are set to run in the Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic on Oct. 12 in Newberry before hosting a meet at Blythewood High School on Oct. 16.
