Fairfield County’s animal welfare efforts have been stalled for years due to a lack of progress on the comprehensive animal ordinance and the construction of a new animal shelter. Despite being on the agenda for the County Council’s Monday meeting, the ordinance was again delayed and the shelter discussion was removed from the agenda entirely. What has been in recent years Fairfield County’s no-kill shelter has turned into a full-blown kill shelter crisis.
It is imperative that the council stops playing politics with this county’s animals and takes action. Our council members must demonstrate a sense of urgency in this matter. They must pass the long-overdue improvements to our outdated animal ordinance and accept the very fortuitous shelter offer that has been made for our animals to prevent further suffering and financial burdens in the future.
