COLUMBIA – Both Westwood’s boys and girls track and field teams finished in third place over the weekend at the SCHSL 4A Lower State meet at Ridge View High School.
Westwood’s girls finished with a score of 91.833. Ridge View claimed first place with 122. James Island finished second at 99.
The Redhawk boys combined for a score of 79. Ridge View’s boys took first place with 147, followed by West Florence at 122.
Girls Lower State Meet
Aryianna Moore and Emma Ashley had Westwood’s only individual first place finishes on the day. The girls’ 4×100 meter relay team finished in first with their season-best time of 48.7 seconds.
Moore finished first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.09; she placed second in both the 100 meter dash and the 400 meter dash at 12.39 and 56.53 respectively.
Emma Ashley finished first in the 1600 meter run at 5:16.59. She also placed third in the 3200 meter run at 12:07.75 and fourth in the 800 meter run at 2:24.86.
Harper Ramsdale finished second in pole vault at 2.9 meters.
Ja’Miah Samuel had her season-best time in 400 meter hurdles at 1:07.78 for fourth place. She also had her fastest time of the season in 100 meter hurdles at 16.66 for eighth place.
Jaslyn Simpkins finished fourth in shot put at the 10.48 mark.
Rebecca Ashley placed sixth in pole vault at 2.45 meters.
The girls’ 4×800 meter relay team had a season-best time of 9:59.90 for a second place finish. The 4×400 meter relay team came in third place at 4:08.43, also a season-best.
Boys Lower State Meet
Mike Balkman, Zion Brown and the 4×400 relay team had top finishes for the Redhawk boys.
Balkman placed first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.25, his season-best.
Zion Brown finished first in high jump at 2.05 meters.
The 4×400 relay team’s 3:17.86 time was their fastest of the season.
Jayden Wilson finished second in the 200 meter dash at 22.09 and fourth in the 100 meter dash with his season-best time of 11.13 seconds.
Tavaris Bell placed second in high jump at 1.95 meters.
Dominick Young placed third with his season-fastest time in the 400 meter dash at 49.42 seconds.
Christian Banks finished third in 400 meter hurdles at 56.95.
Chase Simmons placed fifth in long jump at 6.16 meters and sixth in triple jump at 12.97 meters.
Demari Clark placed sixth in the 400 meter dash at 50.85.
Both teams advance to the SCHSL’s State Championship meet on Saturday at Spring Valley High School.
