CHARLOTTE – The Blythewood boys cross country team turned in an outstanding performance at the Wendy’s Invitational in Charlotte on Oct. 5. Running in one of the top races in the Southeast, the varsity placed 10th out of 37 teams in the Open Division. The boys were the third best team from South Carolina in the race. The team was led by senior Mike Lantz, who finished ninth overall with a time of 15 minutes and 44 seconds. Lantz’s time was the second best performance of the day by a South Carolina runner. Other top performances for the boys were recorded by TJ Kirby (68th, 17:23), Hunter Jarvis (73rd, 17:27) and Brandon Hardwick (90th, 17:47).
On Oct. 2, the Blythewood boys defeated Lugoff Elgin and Fairfield Central in a meet at BHS. The boys were led by junior Ben Connor, who finished second overall in a time of 18:59. Other top finishers included Tanner Cierzan (4th, 20:01), Trent Hancock (5th, 20:07), Chris Anderson (6th, 20:10), and Devin Lowry (7th, 20:11).
The Lady Bengals were also victorious in their race with Lugoff Elgin. The girls were led by freshman Aleah Wilson, who finished first overall with a time of 20:15. Other top finishers included Abby Branham (2nd, 21:24), Kendra Burkhardt (3rd, 22:48), Haley Branham (4th, 24:58) and Beth Mitchell (5th, 25:02).
