RIDGEWAY – A head on crash in Fairfield county Wednesday morning took the life of an Elgin man and injured another.
The crash occurred about 5:45 Wednesday morning and involved two vehicles, a 2012 heavy duty Dodge pickup truck and a 1999 Honda Civic, according to Master Trooper Gary Miller.
The Dodge pickup was traveling east on US Highway 34, Miller reported, and the Honda Civic was traveling west on SC Highway 34 when it drove left of center and struck the Dodge pickup truck head on.
The driver of the Honda, Hunter Matthew Mailly, 21, of Elgin died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Dodge pickup was injured and was transported to an area hospital.
An autopsy is scheduled with Newberry Pathology in Newberry, SC to determine the exact cause of death. The accident remains under investigation by Fairfield County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
