COLUMBIA – The Blythewood boys’ and Westwood boys’ and girls’ cross country teams turned in strong showings at Saturday’s Coaches Classic meet at Sandhills Research Center in Columbia. The Bengals ran in the top-tier International Division, placing 16th out of 35 teams with a score of 457. Senior Mike Lantz led the way for the Bengals, finishing ninth out of 238 runners overall with a 5K time of 16:06.73. Other BHS performers were: TJ Kirby (86th, 17:45.69), Brandon Hardwick (108th, 18:11.05), Hunter Jarvis (112th, 18:12.15), Jalen Brown (147th, 18:46.83), James Palmer (170th, 19:06.13) and Ben Connor (183rd, 19:21.83).
The Blythewood JV also had a strong showing, finishing 17th out of 42 teams. The top JV finisher was junior Devin Lowry, who placed 77th in 19:30.
Running in the Championship Division, Westwood’s Ereck Lewis finished 17th out of 363 runners overall with a 5K time of 17:05.89. Other Redhawk finishers were: DeShaun Felder (128th, 18:58.60), Blake Risher (185th, 19:28.41), Caleb Wilson (188th, 19:31.24), Tre’Von King (288th, 21:24.50) and Marcus McNear (314th, 22:05.30). The Redhawk boys finished 28th out of 54 teams in the Championship Division with a score of 792.
The Lady ‘Hawks finished 47th out of 50 teams in the Championship Division with a score of 1269. Emma Howe led the girls’ team with a time of 23:42.51 for a 165th place finish out of 355 runners. Other Lady Redhawk finishers were: Madison Hancock (265th, 26:06.05), Ceira Bradford (268th, 26:10.85), Da’sha Jobes (320th, 29:15.82), A’Keriah Praylow (321st, 29:17.79) and Alyssa Castelluccio (325th, 29:23.22).
