Mrs. Gertrude G. Stevenson, 90, of Ridgeway passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. The widow of the late Samuel M. Stevenson, she was born in Richland County on August 21, 1931. She was the only child of the late William Ralph and Ellen DuBois Goodson of New Paltz, New York.
She finished Ridgeway High School and Draughon’s Business School in Columbia, S.C. finishing in accounting. Gertrude worked for the Associated Distributing Company in Columbia, Bank of Ridgeway in Ridgeway, and Boney’s Grocery in Ridgeway.
Gertrude was a member of Aimwell Presbyterian Church when at the time was Historian for over 25 years and organist for both Aimwell and Longtown Presbyterian Churches. She loved her church music. She was a former member of the D.H.R-Thomas Woodward Chapter in Winnsboro, S.C. She was also a dog and cat lover.
She is survived by her stepson in law Jim Blackwelder whom she dearly loved; stepdaughter, Sandra Phillips; stepson John E. Stevenson, 6 step grandchildren, great grandchildren, and cousins in Arizona, New York, and Florida.
A graveside service was held at 4 o’clock pm Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Aimwell Cemetery in Ridgeway S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gertrude’s memory to the Fairfield County Animal Shelter and Adoption Agency, P.O. Box 60 Winnsboro, SC 29180.
