BLYTHEWOOD – The Redhawk boys came out on the right end of another tight score, taking a 63-61 win over Spring Valley in their home opener. The Westwood boys went 2-1 in preseason play with wins over Ben Lippen (78-43) and Heathwood Hall (50-42). They fell 61-71 to Wilson High School. The boys will play Ridge View on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Blythewood next Tuesday.
Westwood girls opened their 2021 season at home against Spring Valley on Tuesday. Up 19-8 in the first, Spring Valley came back to lead 32-29 at half. The Redhawks rallied to conquer the Vikings by a 58-54 margin. Junior Jessica Woods, pictured above left, led Redhawk scorers with 24. Korletta Daniels added 13. The Redhawk girls defeated River Bluff (51-30) and Eau Claire (59-36) in preseason play.
Westwood Girls will host The Queens of the Castle showcase Dec. 2 – 4. They will face Arizona Compass Prep on Thursday at 8:30 p.m., Winston Salem at 7 p.m. on Friday and Lexington at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Next week, they will host Blythewood for a cross-town rivalry game at 6 p.m.
