Bah Humbug…or was it the Grinch?? Well somebody or someone tried to steal Christmas 2021! Last year the Blythewood Rotary Club had an incredibly successful fundraiser selling Christmas Trees and Wreaths at the corner of University Parkway and Blythewood Road. The Club used the monies to fund $8,000 in scholarships for high school seniors in the area. The Club members had a great time spreading Christmas Cheer to all who stopped by.
The Club had been making plans and getting ready for the arrival of trees for this year’s sale when they got the bad news…NO Trees! They could not believe it. How could this be?? But it was true. Our trees had been purchased from the North Carolina Mountains and it seems that very few trees were planted in 2008 due to the economic downturn. Trees of the size and quality that we want to sell, 10 to 12 feet, takes 12 to 15 years to grow. Bah Humbug!
So when the leaves are falling and it begins to get cold you will not see us selling trees on the corner. Other sites such as the Farmers Market may have a few, but be sure to check out the corner anyway for you may see Blythewood Rotary there with a whole bunch of Christmas Cheer. So take that Mr. Grinch! And the trees will grow and we will be back!
