I think it is important to get to know those who are running for office. I, Shirley Greene would like to announce my candidacy for the Fairfield County Council District 2 seat in the November election. I was born and raised in Fairfield County and was fortunate to develop and value ethics and skills that would guide my service on the council. These skills include keen ability to listen, visionary program planning, understanding of budget development, experience in developing collaborative projects and encouraging people to work together!
After earning my degree in Economics from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, I volunteered for the National Teacher Corp, worked as a teacher in Philadelphia, PA and held various executive positions with the American Cancer Society. I then moved back to Fairfield County and for the past nineteen years have volunteered with multiple agencies, one being the Fairfield County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs where I chaired the committee to work with the County Council, the SC Department of Disabilities and others to fund and construct a $l.5 million-dollar service center. Other agencies include Blair Coalition of Churches, Lake Wateree Association, Fairfield Forward, United Fairfield and Trinity Presbytery .
I sincerely want to give back to the community that gave me my start in life and I still want to continue my goal by serving the people of District 2 on the County Council. When you review my platform, you will understand how I will positively impact the council so as to improve the lives of all Fairfield County residents!
My husband of 52 years, James, and I live at Lake Wateree and we are blessed with two children and five grandchildren. I sincerely ask the citizens of District 2 for your support in the November 3 election and I will promise to dedicate myself to making Fairfield County a great place to work and live!
