BLYTHEWOOD – Both the Blythewood Lady Bengals and the Westwood Lady Redhawks kicked off the 2018 volleyball regular season in tri-match with Dutch Fork on Tuesday. The reigning region 5-4A champion Bengals escaped with a 2-0 night, and the Redhawks went 1-1.
Blythewood disposed of the Silver Foxes in straight sets, 25-13 and 25-19. Westwood proved to be a much tougher test for the Bengals. The Lady Redhawks took the first set 25-21, but Blythewood bounced back with a strong 25-12 performance in the second set. The Bengals edged out Westwood 15-12 in a tight final set.
The Redhawks breezed through their matchup with Dutch Fork in two sets. They knocked the Silvers Foxes 25-15 in the first set and closed it out 25-12.
The Lady Bengals see action at home again on Monday against West Florence at 5:30. Westwood hosts a tri-match against AC Flora and Sumter at 5 p.m. tonight and will host Lugoff-Elgin on Aug. 28.
