Wallace is one of only 81 golfers to be invited to play in the tournament.
PEBBLE BEACH, CA – Kendall Wallace, 17, a rising senior at Westwood High School and the Westwood Redhawks’ golfing MVP, has been selected to compete in the Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) 2018 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting the First Tee at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California, from Sep.24-30.
Wallace will represent The First Tee of Columbia and is among 80 participants from 22 states who were selected by a national panel of judges.
The PURE Insurance Championship pairs First Tee golfers with 81 PGA Tour Champion players and 162 other amateurs. Wallace’s hunt for the pro-junior title will be televised on the Golf Channel from Sept. 28 to Sept. 30.
Wallace has been golfing since he was seven, and, in addition to being named Westwood’s Male Newcomer Athlete of the year, Wallace was also one of three players in the country selected to participate in the St. Augustine Amateur in 2017.
“It was unbelievable hearing my name called this morning,” Wallace said. “I’m excited to go to Pebble Beach to play with some of the best junior and champion players in the world. I’m thankful for the support from my parents and coaches, and I’m looking forward to representing Columbia on a national level.”
Some of the players who have committed to play in the competition include Mark O’Meara, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer.
Wallace is the son of Anthony and Jackie Wallace of Blythewood.
