Meditating upon the word of God is a powerful tool we can use to deepen and strengthen our relationship with the Lord. God’s leader Joshua was told by God Himself just how powerful this practice can be. Joshua (1:8,9) says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Before discussing the good that meditating upon the word of God can bring to our lives, it is important to note there is one important action that needs to be joined to our willingness to meditate upon God’s word and that is we must be willing to obey it. The true benefits of meditation are found in the phrase “that you may observe to do according to all that is written it.” It is in the combined actions of meditating upon the word of God and then obeying it that causes our relationship with the Lord to be deepened and strengthened.
With this stated, God has much to say about the benefits of meditating upon His word. From His statement to Joshua alone, we can see that God tells us that through meditation and obedience we can become both successful and prosperous. In addition, meditating upon God’s word brings about good courage, the kind of courage that dispels all fear and dismay.
Upon what do you ponder over or reflect upon in your mind? If it is the word of God, you will do well for yourself in this life. With meditation comes a myriad of blessings! Are you ready to deepen and strengthen your relationship with the Lord by means of meditating upon His word?
