Obituary: Alice Pauline Hawkins Branham

Blythewood – Alice Pauline Hawkins Branham, 97, of Blythewood, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Born June 30, 1920 in Prosperity, SC, she was a daughter of the late George Wilbur and Annie Alice Kunkle Hawkins.

Mrs. Branham was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved babies and children and, for a while along with her family, gave a loving home to foster babies. During World War II, Mrs. Branham worked in the textile industry, acquiring skills that later served her in her employment at Stone Manufacturing, as well as the remainder of her life. Along with her sister June, she operated the “Belt and Buckle” Sewing Shop on Taylor Street in Columbia, SC, in the 1950’s. She also worked as a civil service employee at Fort Jackson, SC, and retired after many years of dedicated service. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, including many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her sisters, Lottie Mae Hawkins Martin, June P. Hawkins King; brother, Thomas R. Hawkins, all of Prosperity; children, Wayne Branham, Harold Branham (Kaye Addy), Donna Branham Barnhurst-Odum (Larry), Gloria Rowe (Gary), Huey Robert “Bud” Branham (Patti); 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Clinton Branham; brothers, Harold Wilbur Hawkins, Robert Kunkle Hawkins; sisters, Julia Frances Hawkins Williams, Sarah Minnie Hawkins Hamm; son-in-law, David Barnhurst; daughter-in-law, Carol Jane Nelson Branham.

The funeral service for Mrs. Branham will be held 2 o’clock, Saturday, January 13th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Windsor Lake Ward, 2350 White Pine Road, Columbia.    The family will receive friends Friday, January 12th, from 6 until 8 o’clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Mike Bernardo, the nurses, and staff at Springfield Place in Newberry.  Memorials may be made to Humanitarian or Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
