BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood Middle School is the first school in Columbia to welcome to the community a ground-breaking empathy and kindness event at the school on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The featured activity of the evening is a presentation by Meichelle G. from the non-profit organization, Rachel’s Challenge.
Rachel’s Challenge is a program created to equip and inspire individuals to replace acts of violence, bullying, and negativity with acts of respect, kindness, and compassion. The program is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott, who was the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in 1999.
BMS PTO estimates 500 community and school members will participate in the evening event. BMS student will view private grade-level presentations during the school day.
Food will be available for purchase at food trucks/vendors from Scotties, Chocolate Chip Diva, and Sweet Pea Ice Cream. To raise funds for the continuation of this program at BMS, there will be a silent auction with over $8,000 in items (including a 4-pack of Disney park hopper passes courtesy of Disney, and a Full Orthodontic treatment donated by Dr. Christopher Jernigan, DMD, PA), a $1/ticket raffle with over 30 prizes (including a $250 Target gift card), a Game Truck, and a few secret activities geared at growing kindness in the community.
