As a Christian, the last thing I want to do is to sin against God. I don’t want to fall short of His expectations of me and in turn disappoint Him. Sure, I understand the fact God knows I am weak and frail and that I will not live perfectly in His sight. Knowing this doesn’t make me feel any better when I do sin. I simply feel like I have failed Him and am not worthy.
Thankfully, there are Scriptures such as Psalm (130) that tell me there is hope for me when I fail God. The psalmist writes the following words: “Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You that You may be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning- yes, more than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption. And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.”
Yes, with God there is forgiveness, mercy, and redemption. Surely these blessings from God provide healing for the wounded psyche and help for the heart that is hurting. Our God is indeed an awesome God is who is worthy to be praised!
Because the promises of forgiveness, mercy, and redemption are given to His children, the best and only thing that I can do to respond to my sinfulness is to simply say in a spirit of repentance, “Lord, I am sorry. Please forgive me.” I know when I do this He will not only forgive me, but He will also restore me to a right relationship with Him.
How about you? Have you as a Christian sinned against God? If you have, remember our God is forgiving, merciful, and willing to redeem. Tell Him you are sorry and that you want His forgiveness. Blessings will indeed follow!
