It seems that not too many people, if any, are using the new recreation building that the County recently built on the east side of Lake Wateree. The administration and the taxpayers from Districts 1 and 2 didn’t think it was a good idea to build there. The Mitford Community offered land beside their fire department at a cost $1 for 50 years, but that land was turned down. Instead of building the recreation center, the money, in my opinion, should have been used to build a fire department sub-station on Rockbridge Road to help lower the insurance rates for the residents in a five-mile radius of the station. A piece of property was offered to Fairfield County but was rejected by the Council. The people in the area deserve to have their insurance rates lowered.
The recreation building is nice and I would like to see it be used. I offered to bring a number of classes there- wood working, gun safety, etc. Fairfield County administration and recreation would supply instructors and materials for many of these classes.
I do know that the Wateree Home-owners Association plans to hold their annual meeting at the center which is good. Hopefully, they will enjoy it and spread the word.

I wonder who owns the property? The county had to make sure that the right person got the money.
