Richard Dowling Clark

Richard Dowling Clark, 75, of Blythewood, died on Friday, July 10, 2026. Born in Gainesville, Florida, on October 4, 1950, he was a son of the late Haynesworth Keene and Helen Burnette Clark.

Richard retired in 2023 but still managed to stay active. He always enjoyed being at work and talking to people. He was also always willing to give someone a “little piece of advice.”

One of Richard’s proudest accomplishments was being “G-Pops” to his five grandsons. He was always there for them, whether it was attending an event in person or something as simple as an encouraging text or phone call. Some of his favorite memories were of summer vacations at Fripp Island, eating fresh shrimp and simply being together

Survivors include his wife, Donna Sue “Susie” Frick Clark; daughters, Allison Canter (Tim) and Carrie Clark (David Paradis); grandsons, Levi, Ethan, and Micah Canter and Alex and Louis Paradis; brother, John Clark (Debby); brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Sharon Frick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Keeton.

The funeral service for Mr. Clark will be held at 11:30 o’clock, on Wednesday, July 29th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with Rev. Fr. Scotty Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 o’clock.
