In my years of driving in Columbia/ Blythewood, I’ve noticed that not many people follow the speed limits on I-77, I-20 or even Wilson Blvd. or Blythewood Rd.
As an example, with all the construction on I-77, in and near Blythewood, you would think people would slow down. Not so. I have witnessed cars and tractor trailers traveling in excess of the speed limit all through the construction zone.
I can be going the posted limit on I-77 or I-20, and cars and truck pass me like I’m sitting still. I know we have all seen it.
So, why do we have speed limits?
And the thing that troubles me most is seeing vehicles breaking the speed limit, and here comes a state police car passing everyone, even though his blue lights are not flashing!
I hardly ever see a county deputy or highway patrol on I-77 or I-20.
If the posted speed limits are not going to be enforced, the state may as well save my money and forget them because they are sure not being enforced.
Just my two-cents worth, but if someone doesn’t start enforcing the traffic laws, we’re going to have a big increase in accidents on the roads, especially in the construction zones.
