BLYTHEWOOD – The Westwood baseball team (5-15-1, 3-9 Region 5-5A) fell 15-0 in three innings at St. James Monday in the first game of the best-of-3 play-in series for the lower state District 3 tournament.
In the second game Tuesday, the Sharks closed out the series with a 12-4 win to end the Redhawks’ season.
Westwood’s Josiah Henryhand went 2-for-3, but the Redhawks committed seven errors that led to three unearned runs.
St. James (17-10) will play at West Florence in the first round of the District 3 tournament in the lower state bracket.
Last week the Redhawks Fell 8-1 to Sumter Thursday but beat American Leadership Academy 14-13 Friday.
Against the Patriots, Austin Jeffcoat went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBI. Nathan Caldwell went 2-for-5. Blaize Owen went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Westwood softball fell 13-9 to Sumter Thursday to close out the region season, beat Dutch Fork 13-8 Friday, and fell 9-8 to Chapin in a play-in game for the lower state District 3 Tournament to close out the season.
Against the Gamecocks, Gillian Knight and Carolina Pettway had two hits apiece. Pettway drove in two runs. Jordin Hammett homered and had two RBI.
Against the Silver Foxes, Annarea Wilson pitched a complete game, scattering eight hits, walking five and striking out six. Wilson also went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBI. Nayanna Shannon had two hits, homered, and drove in four runs. Hammit had two hits and two RBI, Pettway had two hits including a triple, Jersey Brass had two hits and Knight doubled.
Against the Eagles Hammett had two hits including a double, Brass had three hits including a double, and Wilson also doubled.
