BATESBURG — Fairfield Central’s baseball team ran into a potent offense Tuesday night, falling 15-0 to Batesburg-Leesville in the opening round of the Class AA Upper State District 3 tournament.
While the final score reflected a dominant performance by the host Panthers, the Griffins showed flashes of discipline at the plate. Caden Brown and Brandon Adams hit back-to-back singles to put pressure on the Batesburg-Leesville defense early, but no runs materialized.
The Panthers, however, capitalized on a quick start, crossing the plate five times in the bottom of the first inning. Batesburg-Leesville’s totaled 12 hits to keep the Griffins on the defensive.
Brandon Adams took the loss on the mound for Fairfield. Jayshawn Worthy came in for a gritty relief effort. Worthy logged over three innings of work, striking out two batters and settling in against a Panthers lineup that entered the postseason with significant momentum.
The loss moves Fairfield Central into the elimination game against Brashier Middle College at home on Thursday, May 7.
The Griffins will look to defend their home turf and keep their championship aspirations alive. Brashier MC enters the matchup following a loss to top-seeded Mid-Carolina.
First pitch for Thursday’s must-win game is set for 6 p.m. at Fairfield Central High School. The winner will advance to play again on Saturday.
