BLYTHEWOOD – The Blythewood softball team (16-6) got past their 5-2 loss to Boiling Springs Saturday in the second round of the 5A Division 1 upper state District Two tournament with a 10-0, 5-inning victory over Wade Hampton.
The Bengals had nine hits, five for extra bases, while Charlotte Martin 2-hit the Generals (6-18), striking out six.
“Friday was a tough one,” head coach Jordan Atkinson said. “We left 16 runners on base and I think 10 in scoring position. It was good to come out here and put the ball in play and drive it well. We got runners on, bunted well, a good game.”
Makalah Ford led the way at the plate with a 3-run home run in the third inning and a game-ending 2-run dinger in the fifth. She was 3-for-4 on the afternoon with five RBI.
Martin had three hits, including a double. Molly Wolf and Rhames Weisinger both hit doubles.
Against the Bulldogs Friday, the Bengals got six hits, including doubles from Alyssa Davis, Cici Martin, and Lily Zell, but could only drive in two runs.
Zell worked a complete game in the circle, giving up seven hits. Boiling Springs hitters Ashlyn Posey, and Abbie Wilson both hit doubles and Chloe Sloand went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Wilson drove in two runs.
Blythewood plays at Boiling Springs (19-6) Wednesday for the District 2 championship. The Bulldogs shut out J.L. Mann 11-0 Monday to reach the final game. The Bengals have to beat the Bulldogs twice.
