Westwood sprinters shine at All-American

COLUMBIA – The Westwood Redhawks proved they belong among the elite this past weekend at the 31st annual All-American Track and Field Classic. Facing a field of 72 teams at Spring Valley High School, the Westwood boys surged to a tie for fifth place overall, anchored by a gold-medal performance in the 4×100-meter relay.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Jamey Patterson, Myles Bryant, Jayden Wilson and Jayden Boyd blazed to a first-place finish with their season-best time of 40.39 seconds, also setting new meet and facility records. The squad’s time is currently the 7th best time in the nation.

Individual speed was also on display as Wilson took third in the 200m (20.98), followed closely by Patterson in fourth (21.22). Davin Brown finished 5th in shot put (39-03.50). Bryant secured seventh in the 100m finals (10.81). Aiden Adkins broke into the top ten in the one-mile run, placing ninth (4:34.85). Devin Crump placed 10th in triple jump at 13.2m, and Darryl Jones hit 44.53 mark in discus for 10th place.

The Westwood girls finished 25th overall with 11 points. Alysa Jones provided the individual highlight, sprinting to a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.20). The girls’ 4×400-meter relay team also impressed, taking fourth place overall in 4:00.22. Other top-ten contributors included Ja’Nae Wells (9th in Discus) and Gabrielle Davis (10th in 100m Hurdles).

Westwood hosted Gray Collegiate for a meet on Wednesday, but scores were not available prior to The Voice’s press deadline.
