WINNSBORO — Richard Winn Academy senior Abby Lewis signing a letter of intent to join the Clemson University shotgun team last week.
Lewis’s commitment follows a dominant senior season that saw her elevate her team to a SCISA state championship.
“This outstanding accomplishment reflects her dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence,” Richard Winn Academy said in a Facebook post. “She will always represent Richard Winn Academy with pride.”
Lewis’s senior campaign reached its peak on Feb. 29 at the Hermitage Sporting Grounds in Camden, where she led the Eagles to the 2026 SCISA State Sporting Clay Championship. Lewis delivered a masterclass performance, hitting 91 targets to earn the “Highest Over All” (HOA) title for the girls’ division.
Her precision at the state level was historic; her score of 91 not only secured the individual title but nearly matched the boys’ division HOA winner, who finished with 93. Backed by teammates Charlotte Lewis and Emmaleigh McInvaille, the Eagles posted a combined team score of 222 to beat runner-up Wilson Hall by 10 points.
Beyond her collegiate future, Lewis has also earned a rare opportunity on the national stage. She was recently selected as one of only four high school students to represent South Carolina at the 4-H National Shooting Sports Competition in Nebraska, which will take place this summer.
The national selection and collegiate signing cap a legacy-defining year for Lewis, who helped the Eagles improve upon a third-place state finish in 2025 to claim the championship trophy in 2026.
