As parents of children who attend Muller Road School, this project has been a significant and ongoing hardship for local families.
The work began the summer before our oldest daughter started middle school; she will be graduating in a few weeks, and the construction is still ongoing. Now, her younger sister is set to begin school this June, and our family will once again face the same construction-related delays.
What many residents find particularly disheartening is the contrast between this project and other recent roadwork in the area. For example, construction on Scout Highway began years later and has already progressed to near completion, including an entire exit off I-77 and a railroad overpass—yet Blythewood Road widening has still not been completed as planned.
What is the explanation for the repeated delays? Additionally, is the county holding the contractor accountable through penalties for missed milestones or other contractual enforcement measures?
Many families in our community would greatly appreciate increased transparency and accountability regarding this project.
