PROSPERITY — Fairfield Central track and field claimed region titles in 11 different individual events and three relays at the SCISL 2A Region 3 championship meet on Tuesday at Mid-Carolina High School.
Brintney Mack and Natalie Mickle each captured two individual titles to lead the Fairfield Central girls’ track and field team, while Jamie Brown swept the long sprints for the boys.
Mack took first place in both the 100-meter dash (12.46 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (26.03). She also helped anchor a relay squad that swept the 4×100-meter (49.77) and 4×400-meter (4:22.39) events.
In the field, Mickle was equally dominant. She swept the throwing events, taking the region title in the discus with a toss of 26.48 meters and the shot put with a mark of 10.11 meters.
Other notable performances for the girls included Janiya Cromartie, who finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, and Anaya Bannister, who earned a podium spot with a third-place finish in the triple jump (9.46m).
On the boys’ side, Brown was the standout performer on the track. He won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.01 seconds and followed it up with a victory in the 200-meter dash at 22.12 seconds. Brenton Mack, followed closely, taking second in the 400-meter and third in the 100-meter.
Marlon Smith captured the region title in the 110-meter hurdles (16.54) and finished second in the 400-meter hurdles. Derek Green earned a silver medal in the 800-meter run (2:11.03) and placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run.
The Griffin boys mirrored the girls’ success in the throwing circles, claiming gold in both events. Keshon Williams won the discus title with a throw of 42.94 meters, while Jamari Favors took the shot-put crown with a mark of 14.1 meters.
In the jumps, Antonio Gunn secured a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 12.74 meters.
The Griffins’ 4×400-meter relay team punctuated the day with a first-place finish, clocking in at 3:29.91. The boys’ 4×100 and 4×800 teams both added third-place finishes to the team’s total.
Fairfield Central now advances to the upper state qualifying meet as they look toward the 2A state championships.
