COLUMBIA — The Fairfield Central track and field program made a statement at Memorial Stadium on April 1, tallying seven individual event wins and a relay victory at the Dreher Home Meet #1.
Led by multi-event performances from Jamie Brown, Ty’Quarius Shannon, and Brintney Mack, the Griffins dominated the sprint and field events against Columbia and Dreher high schools.
The Griffin boys swept the top three spots in the 100-meter dash, led by Jamie Brown’s first-place finish at 10.96 seconds. He was followed closely by Ty’Quarius Shannon (10.97) and Brenton Mack (11.06).
Brown doubled his gold medal count later, taking first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.25. Shannon earned another runner-up finish in the 200 (23.04).
In the 400-meter dash, Kenyan Douglas took the top spot with a time of 51.21, followed by Brenton Mack in second at 51.50. The boys’ 4×100-meter relay team also took first, crossing the finish line in 42.45 seconds.
On the distance side, Derek Green finished second in both the 800-meter (2:21.42) and the 1600-meter (5:11.95) runs. Marlon Smith added a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (18.85).
Brintney Mack led the charge for the girls’ squad, winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.90. She also secured a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash at 26.41.
The Griffins showed significant depth in the 400-meter dash, taking five of the top six spots. Following Mack were A’laya Lawry (3rd), Janiya Cromartie (4th), Nigeria Bell (5th), and Jakiera White (6th).
In the 100-meter dash, Jayla Long took second with a time of 13.20, while Janiya Cromartie took second in the 100-meter hurdles (19.94). The girls’ 4×100-meter relay team also reached the podium with a second-place finish with a time of 50.56.
In the discus, the Griffins got a clean sweep in both boys and girls. Natalie Mickle won the girls’ event with a toss of 26.34 meters, and Keshon Williams was the top male finisher with a mark of 38.05 meters. Williams also took second in the shot put (12.05m), while Mickle finished third in the girls’ shot put at 8.8 meters.
Ty’Quarius Shannon added a field victory to his standout day on the track, claiming first in long jump with a leap at the 6.3 meter mark. Antonio Gunn contributed a second-place finish in the triple jump at 11.56 meters, and Jamari Favors earned a third-place finish in the shot put (11.92m).
