BLYTHEWOOD – Westwood’s baseball team (4-6, 3-3) went into Spring Break with a 6-5 victory over Spring Valley Thursday, but fell 10-4 at Bishop England Monday and 14-5 to Ardrey Kell (Charlotte) Tuesday in a tournament at Bishop England.
On Thursday the Redhawks took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first inning and led 4-3 at the end of two. The Vikings scored a run in the fifth and another run in the sixth inning to tie the game at five.
The game went into extra innings at 5-5. In the bottom of the eighth with two out and the bases filled with Kyndal Ragins at third, Adrian Davila at second and J Quarles at first, Nathan Caldwell drew a walk that scored Ragins for the walk-off win.
Against Bishop England Zachary Nelson went 2-for-3 with a double and Josiah Henryhand also doubled, but pitcher Finn Corley picked up the win in 4 2/3 innings of work. He also went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.
Against Ardrey Kell, Westwood took a 2-1 lead after the top of the second inning, but the Knights scored 10 runs on five hits, five walks and a Westwood error in the bottom of the second and never looked back.
Westwood’s play in the tournament continued Wednesday, but scores were not available prior to The Voice’s press deadline. They return from spring break to host Lugoff-Elgin Tuesday.
