BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood girls’ soccer continued its dominant march through Region 4-5A on Tuesday, blanking Spring Valley 3-0. The win keeps the Bengals (9-3, 8-0) perfect in region play and cements their status as the team to beat as the season enters its final stretch.

The Bengals took a 1-0 lead into halftime before adding a pair of insurance goals in the second half. Regan Flynn led the Bengals with two goals on the night; Caroline Powell also found the back of the net to round out scoring.

In goal, Bengal keepers Milak Nalls and Chyna Bush tallied five saves to preserve the shutout.

A familiar story? That’s because Blythewood has been nearly flawless this spring. With their only blemishes coming in non-region play, including one narrow loss in a shootout, the Bengals have found the right formula: timely scoring and high-pressure defense.

Led by center back Lauren Thye, the back line of Thye, Lily Ballard, Bailey Belville and Cassidy Haddock have consistently shut down opposing offenses and kept pressure away from the goal, anchoring a unit that has tallied 9 shutouts in 12 games this season.

The Bengals will rely on that formula as they edge toward closing out their regular-season schedule and look to move deep into the postseason.

Blythewood hosts Lugoff-Elgin at home on Friday for a 7 p.m. game. They’re back on the road Tuesday at West Florence.
