BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood’s baseball and softball teams continued their winning ways last week with several wins over Region 5-5A teams and non-region teams.
The Blythewood baseball team (10-1, 5-0) beat Spring Valley 12-2 Thursday, then followed up with an 8-7 victory in eight innings over A.C. Flora Friday.
Against the Vikings, Bowman Brummel picked up the win on the mound, pitching four innings and giving up two runs on three hits. He struck out four and walked four. Alex Myers homered, Jackson Bottar doubled, and Sammy Franklin went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sergio Melendez drove in three runs and Macon Leppert drove in two.
The Falcons were up 7-6 before the Bengals got a run in the bottom of the sixth, and the teams went into extra innings tied at 7 Friday.
Melendez took the mound to start the eighth inning and set the Falcons down in order to retire the side. Blythewood’s Zach Hardy led off the bottom of the eighth with a single off relief pitcher Roper Wentzky, moved to second off Johnny Collins’ sacrifice bunt, and scored on Sammy Franklin’s game-winning RBI line-drive single to leftfield.
Rummel had three hits and drove in two runs to lead the Bengals. Franklin was 2-for-4, and Amare Counts and Collins doubled.
The Bengals beat Lugoff-Elgin 11-0 Tuesday night. Collins got the win, pitching five innings of 2-hit ball and striking out 6. He also doubled and tripled and drove in two runs. Franklin was also 2-for-3 with a double and Macon Leppert doubled.
Blythewood Softball
Blythewood softball (12-2, 4-0) made light work of Spring Valley, getting an 18-run second inning to clinch a 21-2 3-inning victory over the Vikings Thursday. Raygan Segars went 3-for-3 with three doubles and five RBI, and Rhames Weisinger went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs. Cici Martin went 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI and Macie Young went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBI. Alyssa Davis had two hits.
Against Lancaster Friday, Blythewood held an 8-3 lead after three innings and held on for an 8-6 win. Lily Zell pitched a complete game and gave up 11 hits but struck out seven and walked just one.
Makalah Ford had a double, a home run and two RBI. Segars went 2-for-4 with a double and Gabby Cook and Weisinger had two hits apiece.
The Bengals beat Lugoff-Elgin 11-1 in five innings Tuesday night. Zell pitched five innings for the win, giving up four hits and striking out eight. She also had two hits.
Keeley Hughes was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Weisinger had two hits including a double and drove in two runs. Segars had two hits and three RBI and Molly Wolf had two hits. Ashley Duncan doubled.
Blythewood baseball plays host to Lugoff-Elgin tonight, are at White Knoll Friday, and play host to West Florence Tuesday.
