Infant dies in crash on Hwy 321

WINNSBORO – A 10-month old baby girl was killed when the vehicle she was a passenger in overturned numerous times on US Hwy 321 at Devil’s Racetrack Road in Fairfield County, accord­ing to Fairfield County Coroner Chris Hill.

The crash occurred at about 10 a.m., on March 6.

The infant, identified by Hill as Honesty Swearington of Irmo, SC, was unrestrained in a 2014 Toy­ota Sedan, and was ejected from the vehicle, according to SCHP Master Trooper Brandon Bolt.

The driver of the Toyota was in­jured and transported to an area hospital.

The vehicle was traveling north on U.S. Hwy 321 when it went off the right side of the road, then off the left side of the road, striking a tree, and overturning numerous times, according to Hill.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Fairfield County Coroner’s Of­fice and South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate.
