ANDERSON – The Fairfield Central Griffins hit the road on Tuesday night for playoff action against the number one-seed Pendleton Bulldogs. The Bulldogs ended the regular season as the number-five ranked 3A team in the state, but their rankings did not save them from a 50-37 loss. The win marked head coach Jonanthan Durant’s first postseason victory with the program.
Pendleton’s offense sputtered in the opening half. The Bulldogs only managed 18 points in the first two periods, and the Griffins managed to put up 26 first-half points. The Griffins offense struggled in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs were not able to make up much ground.
Fairfield’s lead stood at five at the beginning of the fourth, but shut the door on the Bulldogs with a strong offensive showing in the final. The Griffins racked up 19 in the fourth quarter to Pendleton’s 11. Montravis White led the team in scoring with 21. Charlie Cason had 10.
The Griffins travel to Southside on Friday for round two action.
