Eagles fall to Greenwood Christian

WINNSBORO – Before their 8-2 loss to Greenwood Christian last week, it had been over a year since Richard Winn’s baseball program lost a game on their home field. With their last loss at home to York Prep in April 2024, the Eagles were on a 13 game win streak on their own field. But the Thursday night game against the SCISA 3A school changed that.

The Hawks scored first, but the Eagles responded with two off of a single from Owen Martin in the bottom of the first to go up 2-1.

Greenwood’s Jacob Lee hit a dinger in the top of the second, and the Hawks took flight.

They added two more in the third off of another homer, then plated in a run in each of the next three innings and managed to hold the Eagles scoreless through the bottom of the seventh to claim the 8-2 win.

Martin went 1-3 with two RBIs. Dylan Albert went 2-3 with two doubles; Bennett Nicholson also doubled in the loss.

Martin took the loss. He faced 30 batters in 6 innings. He allowed seven hits, eight runs (seven earned); he struck out four and walked four.

The Eagles were back in action yesterday at Newberry Academy, but scores were not available prior to The Voice’s press deadline. They will travel to Laurens Friday for a 6 p.m. game, then face Fairfield Central next week for a pair of cross-town rivalry game (April 14 at FC; April 15 at RW – both games at 6 p.m.).
