BLYTHEWOOD – Westwood High School announced Stephen Burris as its next head football coach in a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
Burris coached at 1A Lamar for the last 2 seasons, winning a region championship in 2023, leading the Silver Foxes to 9-4 records and third-round playoff appearances in both years. Before then, Burris worked as an assistant for 16 years at Ridge View, Conway, and Socastee high schools.
Former head coach Robert O’Connell resigned in February after three seasons at the helm of the Redhawk program. He went 10-23 over that time, winning his first playoff game last year.
Westwood was 6-6 last year and reached the second round of the 5A Division II playoffs.
