COLUMBIA, S.C. — Matt Sherman, Principal of Blythewood High School has been selected as the 2025 SCAAA 5A Principal of the Year, announced by The South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA).
This prestigious honor recognizes Sherman’s outstanding leadership, commitment, and service to both the academic and athletic programs within his school and the broader South Carolina community.

I am proud to lead a community that nurtures students’ growth intellectually, athletically, and personally,” Sherman said.
This recognition is a direct reflection of Sherman’s exceptional dedication to the students, athletes, and educators of Richland School District Two, according to district officials who say his contributions have been key in establishing a vibrant and supportive climate for interscholastic athletics throughout the district.
This year’s recipients have shown an extraordinary willingness to “Go Above and Beyond” in support of their athletes and athletic programs, a press Richland Two press release stated. Sherman’s exemplary leadership continues to make a significant impact on his school and the broader educational and athletic community.
Sherman was also named the 2025 Secondary Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA). With 24 years of service in Richland School District Two, school officials say Sherman has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to education since becoming principal of Blythewood High School in 2018.
Sherman will be honored during the SCAAA Annual Awards Breakfast, scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 8a.m., at the Charleston Marriott, in Charleston, SC.
