BLYTHEWOOD – Richland Two’s 5A powerhouse programs may have nabbed the top three spots of the Region 4 Bob Jenkins Coaches Classic track and field meet on Saturday at Westwood High School, but Fairfield Central’s boys claimed the four spot.
Blythewood’s boys took top honors on the day with a team score of 100; Ridge View followed at 91.2, Spring Valley came in third at 86. With a team score of 73, the Griffins placed fourth out of 21 teams competing.
The Griffin boys were anchored again by Tydarion Grier, Jayden Boyd and Hank White.
In the 100 meter dash, Grier took first with a 10.42 time – a new personal best. Boyd finished in third at 10.52.
In the 200 meter dash, Boyd claimed first at 21.15 – a new personal best; Grier finished fifth at 22.04.
Boyd also took first in long jump at 6.71m.
Hank White claimed first in the 800 meter run at 2:01.07.
The boys’ 4x100m relay team took first place at 42.07.
Antario James took third in triple jump at 12.85m and fifth in long jump at 6.18m.
Without enough athletes to compete, the Griffin girls fell out of the team competition, but competed individually.
Brintney Mack had the highest finishes for the Griffin girls. She finished 12th in the 100m dash at 12.73 and 17th in the 200m dash at 27.06.
The Griffins are scheduled to compete at the Cane Bay Track and Field Invitational on March 29 in Summerville, then will host a home meet on Wednesday, April 2.
