WINNSBORO – Captain Jeff Talbert of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and Investigator John Hingyi were working a case near Old Highway 21 in Fairfield County, when they stumbled across a dog, badly emaciated, barely clinging to life. Fairfield County Animal Control was called to intervene and took the dog to the shelter and for treatment.

Dubbed Captain, the pup was lucky to have been found “just in time,” according to staff at the animal shelter. They say he will need extensive care and are seeking donations to pay for that care.

A post on the shelter’s Faceboook page on Wednesday noted some good news along with a picture of a perkier pup – that Captain is improving and being re-introduced to food slowly. They say, he is responding, and with proper care and attention, he should start putting on weight in the coming days and weeks.
