BW Garden Club’s annual event set for March 20

BLYTHEWOOD – The Blythewood Garden Club’s annual community garden event titled Flowers and Trees will be held on Thursday, March 20.

Amy Wright, Landscape Designer with the City of Columbia, will talk about the beautification of Columbia, the care of the city’s trees and how that can apply to our own gardens and to the public spaces in Blythewood.

The event will be held this year at 7 pm in the Fairfield Electric Cooperative Community Room, 701 Blythewood Road. The event is free and has been offered to the public for over twelve years.

Wright has been with the City of Columbia’s Division of Forestry and Beautification for over 21 years and is a Certified Arborist, and a SC Professional Landscaper among other credentials. She is responsible for the selection and maintenance of all the public spaces in Columbia. She can advise of the newest improved annuals and perennials.

The Blythewood Garden Club was founded in 1953, and has been a force for good gardening, beautification and conservation. It provides and maintains the planters in front of the Post Office and the Carolina Fence Garden at the Historical Museum.

The Garden Club published three editions of the “Blythewood Scrapbook,” an informal history of Blythewood and Cedar Creek.

The Club will soon begin an education and beautification partnership with Blythewood Academy on Main Street. Sherrie Payne is the club’s current President.
