Blythewood’s County Council reps to be sworn in

COLUMBIA – Blythewood’s three Richland County Council representatives will be sworn into office on Thursday, Jan. 2. Each of them ran unopposed in the November election. It is the second term for each one. 

Each one of the three represent different areas of Blythewood 29016: Derrek Pugh represents District 2; Gretchen Barron represents District 3, and Jesica Mackey represents District 9.

The three will be sworn in by Richland County Administrator Leonardo Brown at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln Street in Columbia. The public is invited to attend.

During the regularly scheduled council meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, council members will elect a chair and vice chair to serve in those leadership roles for the upcoming year. Mackey currently serves as president and Pugh serves as vice-president. The council meeting, held in Richland County Council Chambers at the County Administration Building, 2020 Hampton St., Columbia, will be streamed live on the County’s YouTube page.
