Zelda Jumper Boney

Zelda Jumper Boney, 96, of Blythewood, SC, widow of Thomas E. Boney, passed away on December 2, 2024. Born on June 24, 1928, in Miley, SC, she was the daughter of the late Vandy Saylor and Carrie Tate Jumper.

Zelda was the eighth of ten children and enjoyed growing up in a big family. The family loved singing together as their father played the piano. Many enjoyable summer afternoons were spent with the brothers and sisters and the other Miley children swimming and playing in the Salkehatchie River swamp.

After graduating from Brunson High School, Zelda attended USC in Columbia. Her working career began at the South Carolina Electric and Gas Company in Columbia. There she made many lifetime friends. For many years she worked at Richland County School District 2 as secretary at Blythewood High School and later at Blythewood Elementary. Zelda finished her working career at DHEC as a secretary for Environmental Quality Control at State Park.

Zelda became a resident of Blythewood in 1950 when she married Tom Boney. She was an active member of the Blythewood Community for many years. Mrs. Boney loved the Lord and her church. She was a longtime member of Sandy Level Baptist Church in Blythewood. She was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years. She was also very active in the Women’s Missionary Union.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Megan Timmons of Summerville; grandsons, Matt Timmons (Allison) of Summerville and Vic Boney (Meghan) of Florence; great grandchildren, Matthew, Ben, and Madeline Timmons, Greyson, Weston, Eliza Ann, and Elsie Boney; sister, Nell Cooke of Rock Hill; brother-in-law, Harold Boney (Carolyn) of Blythewood; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas E. Boney; daughter, Beth Boney Nettles, and son, T. Dean Boney; brothers, Kelly Jumper, Ralph Jumper, Winslow Jumper, Frank Jumper, and Phil Jumper; sisters, Analda Jumper Harrell, Lellan Jumper Smith, and Carolyn Jumper Gooding Williams; and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of The Village at Summerville for their care and friendship during the last years.

Services for Mrs. Boney were held at Sandy Level Baptist Church, 408 Blythewood Road, Blythewood, on Saturday, December 7, at 2:00 with interment in the Sandy Level Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, December 6, from 5:00 to7:00 at Shives Funeral Home, 7600 Trenholm Road Extension, Columbia.
