BLYTHEWOOD – Westwood girls wrapped their preseason tournaments with a 3-2 record.
The Redhawks dropped their preseason opener to Loris in the M-Town Showdown at Manning High School on Nov. 22 with a 60-53 final, then followed with a 64-19 blowout win over West Florence on Nov. 23.
They went 2-1 in the Thersa Kendle Classic at Summerville High School Nov. 29 – Dec. 1.
First the Redhawks took down Porter-Gaud 55-28, then downed Burke 59-39 to advance to the championship game against Summerville on Sunday.
Summerville held Westwood to only seven points in the first half of the title game on Dec. 1. Down 22-7, the Redhawks found more of a rhythm in the second half, but couldn’t overcome the deficit and dropped the game 49-32.
Sophomore Aneya Britt led the Redhawks against Summerville with a team-high 15 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks. Senior Destiny Omeire had 10 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Westwood opened the regular season at home against White Knoll on Wednesday, but scores were not available before The Voice’s press deadline.
They will host Richland Northeast for a non-conference game on Friday at 6 p.m., then face Military Magnet Academy at the Coach Charles A. Davis Sr. Showcase on at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
