Eagles off to a 1-1 start

WINNSBORO – The Eagle girls opened their 2024-2025 season at home with a win under new (but seasoned) head coach Joe Pitt at the helm.

The Eagles hosted Lake Pointe on Monday for a 49-30 win.

The Eagle offense struggled to find its footing in the first half. Up 10-6 after a quarter of play, Richard Winn extended their lead to 17-12 at halftime.

A big third quarter put Richard Winn up 38-20 behind an 11-point quarter from junior Abby Lewis. They closed out the fourth with a 49-30 final.

Lewis finished with a team-high 17 points on the night. She also had 11 deflections, eight rebounds, six steals and two assists. Sophomore Haley Autry finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds, five deflections, four steals and a block. In her varsity debut, eighth-grader Charlotte Lewis had 12 rebounds, seven points, five deflections, two steals, and a block.

The team tallied 46 deflections 45 rebounds, and 23 steals and had only 14 turnovers in the win.

The Eagles got back to work on Tuesday at home again against Grace Christian.

Richard Winn led 14-9 after a quarter and 28-20 at halftime, but only produced seven points in the second half to fall 41-35.

Autry led with 13 points. She went was 6 for 10 from the field and had eight rebounds and three steals. Abby Lewis had 9 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Harper Branham and Charlotte Lewis had five rebounds each. Eighth grader Kate Baker had a team-high four steals and four assists.

The Eagles will break for the week and pick back up on Dec. 9 at Buford High School. Tip-off for the girls is set for 6 p.m.; the boys will follow.
